No one can forget the December 23rd incident that followed Washington Capitals John Carlson leaving ice following a red trail The spine-chilling experience took place as Winnipeg Jets Brenden Dillion’s slap shot hit hard to the defenceman’s head.

The night which was expected to be a historic one wrapped the arena in a dark cloak. Carlson walked away quickly from the ice followed by teammates, trainers, and officials helping him out with emergency medical treatments. Until the pool of blood got cleared up from the ice, the whole arena stayed still.

Prayers for the defenceman toppled social media accounts following their Christmas break. It wasn’t long before Carlson posted a Christmas celebratory photo with his kids on social media, making the fans believe he was fine. A recent update on his wife Gina’s account has revealed what conspired after the slapshot incident, shocking the fans to their core.

Since he took off the ice on the 23rd of last month, John Carlson has yet to make his return debut. While the organization notified that he is placed on the long-term injured list, his Christmas Insta post mislead the others. In the post, no visible wounds or stitch marks can be seen.

Gina, celebrating his husband’s 33rd birthday, captioned on social media details regarding the slap-slop incident. She wrote, “When they told me right away that you walked off the ice a couple weeks ago, and that was a good sign, it didn’t make me feel any better bc I know it would take your legs not working for you to not get up..” 

“…with your ear back on ?, you came home from the hospital & did it all. When I woke up Christmas morning after being sick the whole night before, I laughed and cried at the same time when I realized as always, you made no short-cuts, literally not one after no sleep”.

“…and hospitalized, homemade cookies for Santa, cooked an amazing dinner, all the kids presents perfectly arranged with their new hockey sticks positioned up against their motorcycle sleds, full stockings… the moment the doctor said you could walk, you went out on a walk, then you were told you could ride the bike, and you were at the rink on the bike.” 

“I admire so much your dedication and work ethic even when it means I have to hang by myself when I try to bribe you to stay home with me ?Your strength doesn’t even come close to your heart and the husband and dad you are.”

In her heartfelt message, Gina Nucci noted how grateful she is to have him on the road to quick recovery after his ear had to be reattached to his head. NHL insiders predict that it’ll take a few months for the defenceman to get back on ice. While he is recovering, the NHL fans have come together to wish him well on social media.
