Prior to joining the Malmo Redhawks, Fiala participated in the 2009 Quebec International Pee Wee Hockey Tournament with the Swiss Eastern Team. He later joined the HV71 with whom he debuted for the 2013 European Trophy. He was also named the finalist for the SHL’s Rookie of the Year Award while tying for the lead among all SHL juniors for points. 

He was one of the top scorers in the junior league with 10 goals and 25 points in 27 games. Fiala ranked as one of the top European prospects for the 2014 NHL Draft. After getting drafted by the Nashville Predators, he signed an entry-level contract with them on July 15th. He later got reassigned to the AHL affiliate team Milwaukee Admirals. At that time, he was running with 14 points in 20 games, the 6th highest point in SHL among juniors.

On March 24, he made his NHL debut against the Montreal Canadiens, while making his first NHL goal against Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets. He finished the year with 50 points in 66 games with the Milwaukee team. During Kevin Fiala’s NHL rookie season, he recorded 11 goals in 54 games. In the 2018-19 season, he scored 10 goals and 32 points in 64 games with the Predators. On 11th September 2019, he signed with the Minnesota Wild after a trade from his previous team.

On June 29, 2022, he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for defenceman Brock Faber and a first-round pick in 2022.
