Minnesota Wild’s star netminder Marc-Andre Fleury takes all the blame for failing to keep their winning streak in Game 2 against Dallas Stars. The Wild snatched victory in Game 1 and what should’ve been repeated in Game 2, the team failed to keep up with fans’ expectations.

Fleury has a tendency to self-criticism himself for failing to protect the post against competitors in the game. This time it was no different as the goalie said his “embarrassing” performance “pissed” himself off. He admitted that Filip Gustavsson’s effort in the previous game should have been carried, but Flower failed to deliver results.

In his 17th straight post-season, Fleury allowed 7 goals on 31 shots, which is considered one of his most missed-out performances in playoff series. Apart from his personal breakdown, it was the Wild’s first time to allow so many goals in a game, that too in a high-adrenaline rushed playoff series.

Marc-Andre Fleury stated after the loss, “Embarrassing on my part, giving up seven goals like that in the playoffs. I want to come in and give a chance to my team to stay in the game and win. That’s not what I did. I gave up too many goals.”

“I think we had to open up to try to come back in the game, and we gave up more chances, but bottom line, I didn’t make any good, key saves in the game. He was tremendous, awesome that last game.”

“I just wanted to do my part”, Fleury stated. It’s no surprise as Fleury is a heavy critic of himself, that his bad performance “pissed me off.” He expressed how upset he is as he wanted to give Gustavsson a break till Game 3 but couldn’t.

Earlier to the playoff start, Wild coach Dean Evason stated that he will use both goalies throughout the playoff season. The team has been quite open about their roster to the media. He commented after Wednesday’s loss, “It’s what we do, right? We’ve done it all year”. “The game, nothing was on ‘Flower’ tonight. It was all on us.”

The last time Fleury gave up on 7 goals was during the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against Philadelphia Flyers as a part of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite Flower’s performance against the Stars, coach Peter DeBoer said that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if the team stars with Fleury in upcoming games.

Stars coach said of Fleury and Filip Gustavsson stating, “Obviously, (I) know Flower. Both those goalies have been a huge part of why that team is where they are right now. During the season, they’ve both been excellent.” Although Fleury beat himself up over his bad performance, his teammates believe the fault lies with them too.

Wild’s forward Mats Zuccarello said, “Yeah, I mean, we gave them too many odd-man rushes and chances and we don’t help Flower out at all”. “That’s what you get against good teams. So, we didn’t play up to our standards, none of us today.”
