Players from AHL (American Hockey League) get a call to NHL after Toronto Maple Leafs’ goalie Matt Murray sustains an adductor injury on Saturday. According to the team, Murray’s placed on the long-term injured list and is expected to miss about 4-weeks of NHL run.

The goalie retired soon after a few drills during morning practice before the expected game against the Ottawa Senators. Upon further consultation with the goalie coach Curtis Sanford, Murray will be taking leave from the rink for a while.

After his trade to the Maple Leafs, he debuted with a score of 19 saves in a 4-3 loss from the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. Leafs’ coach Sheldon Keefe stated, “He’s put in a lot of work and he’s been healthy all the way through the offseason, training camp, preseason”.

Keefe further commented, “He’s put in a lot of work and hasn’t missed a second and been feeling good all the way through. To that end, it’s disappointing for him obviously disappointing for us.” “

We want him to be healthy and want him to be in the net, but these injuries happen and we’ve dealt with a lot of them when it comes to the goaltenders the last couple seasons. That’s the reason why we signed two guys”.

Matt Murray‘s injury-luck streak has continued for a long time since he was with his previous team. Even Ottawa’s coach DJ Smith said on Friday, “Matt, unfortunately here, was just injured all the time”. “Take nothing away from him. He was just hurt all the time. He had a lot of bad luck.”

Leafs’ defenceman Justin Holl said, “I think we are probably thankful it’s not worse than that and keep moving”. “You never like to see guys get hurt. It’s very painful both physically and mentally for guys, so I think we are thankful it’s not worse. He’s going to be a big part of our team and we’re going to need him.”

The team has recalled forward players, Wayne Simmonds, Nicolas Robertson, defenceman Victor Mete, and goalie Erik Kallgren. Kallgren is supposed to assist Ilya Samsonov. On Saturday, Samsonov made 26 saves in a 3-2 win against the Senators.
