Mikko Rantanen is a professional Finnish ice hockey player, playing as a forward and alternate captain for the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League. At the age of 16, Mikko Rantanen started his junior career with the team HC TPS SM Liiga during the 2012-13 season. He stayed with the team and participated in the U-16 level. Within 15 games Rantanen scored a total of 2 goals, 3 points, and 1 assist in 15 games. He further extended his contract for 2 more years and recorded a career-high of 9 goals and 28 points in 56 games. He helped the team win the championships with 14 points in 7 contests. 

On 26th June 2015, Mikko Rantanen was chosen by the Colorado Avalance as the 10th overall in the first round. He signed a 3-years entry-level contract with Colorado shortly after his selection in the NHL Entry Draft. On 11th November 2016, Rantanen scored his first NHL goal at 1:03 in the 2nd period of the game against the Winnipeg Jets. In September 2019, he signed a contract extension for 6-years with the Colorado Avalanche for $55.5 million.
