Ahh, the good old-fashioned hockey fights are back. The start of the 2023-24 NHL season is well and truly underway. This could be seen as a massive fight between Nazem Kadri and Cole Sillinger broke out during the game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Calgary Flames.
Fights in hockey are nothing uncommon. Every year several fights break out as tempers get flared between players. Unlike other sports, the players are actually allowed to swing a few punches before the referees eventually intervene. While this has been questioned several times, fans have been thrilled to watch two players duke it out.
They got a chance to witness another such piece of action as Kadri and Sillinger were engulfed in a fierce bout. The incident took place in the first period of the game. There had been tensions leading to this clash. It was also clearly felt when Kadri was hit by an opposition player.
The reason for this burst up could be the frustrations that were in them. The two players would immediately drop their gloves and grab each other’s jerseys while also exchanging a few jabs. In this shuffle, Sillinger would knock out the helmet of Kadri. After an intense 10-15 seconds, the officials broke up the fight.
Columbus Blue Jackets rebound with impressive win over Calgary Flames
The Columbus Blue Jackets had been under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Before the start of the season, Coach Mike Babcock was fired from his position after he allegedly interfered with the players’ privacy. This phone-checking incident saw him lose his job and the Blue Jackets came under heavy fire.
Since then their start to the season has seen them lose two games and win one. After a defeat against the Detroit Red Wings last time out, they bounced back with an impressive 3-1 win against the Flames.
Goals from Sean Kuraly and Justin Danforth had them 2-0 up in the third period. An empty net goal from Zach Werenski later sealed the deal as they got the victory. Their coach Pascal Vincent was left pleased with the way his side bounced back in this game.
"I want (my team) to feel good... they weren't happy with themselves the last game (against Detroit) and tonight they responded well".Coach Pascal Vincent said as per the Colombus Dispatch.
He would be hoping his side can build on from this win when they take on the Minnesota Wild next time around. Meanwhile, the Flames were just unable to hold out their opponent and will be thinking of a much better performance against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
