It’s finally over! New York Rangers acquire superstar Patrick Kane in a blockbuster deal with Chicago Blackhawks. Rangers have been on the radar for a very long time, but following their trade of Vladimir Tarasenko, Kane’s situation was not clear.

The forward later mentioned how upset he was to see the Rangers go for Tarasenko. Regardless of the situation, Showtime finally got to go to his favorite pick ahead of the 2023 March trade deadline. It was reported that he “pushed behind the scenes” to make Blackhwaks surrender on little return.

The forward took full advantage of his no-movement clause. As of this deal, the Blackhawks will retain $10.5 million of Kane’s contract. The Blackhawks further received AHL defenceman Andy Welinski, a conditional 2023 2nd-round pick, and a 2025 4th-round pick, according to ESPN.

The three-way deal also included the Arizona Coyotes getting a share of a 3rd-round pick in 2025 from the Rangers for brokering the deal. Along with Patrick Kane, the Ranger will welcome defenceman Cooper Zech. Kane will now be packing up for Broadway after playing as Blackhawks’ 2nd all-time scorer and 3rd in all-time games played.

The Stanley Cup champion is expected to make his debut as soon as Wednesday when Rangers play against Philadelphia Flyers. Prior to the final decision made by Kane and the Rangers, it was reported that Dallas Stars were a lingering contender. Unfortunately, the Stars couldn’t secure the top player, failing to add to their offensive power.

On Sunday the Stars added Evgenii Dadonov to the roster from Montreal Canadiens, but they failed to get a fire-power from a player like Kane to add to the line. In a statement, Kane thanked the Blackhawks organization stating he’s proud to call Chicago his home.

He said, “There are simply no words to express my family’s love and appreciation for the Blackhawks organization, my teammates, this city and the greatest fans in the world for welcoming me here since being drafted in 2007“.

Thank you for giving me a chance and supporting me like your own through 1,297 games played in the most iconic sweater, including three Stanley Cups and thousands of memories to last a lifetime.

CEO Danny Wirtz said in a statement released on social media, “The contributions Patrick Kane has made to the Blackhawks organization and the city of Chicago will never be forgotten”. “While today marks the end of the era for the team, he will forever be a part of the Blackhawks family.”

Kane will now be reunited with his friend and former teammate Artemi Panarin in New York. Ahead of the trade, Panarin mentioned how he wanted the Rangers to trade for Kane. Though initially, it didn’t happen, the duo can now reunite and play on the same ice as back in the day.
