After months of speculation regarding his future, three-time Stanley Cup winner Patrick Kane finally has another home. The future Hall of Famer has now signed a one-year deal and joined the Detroit Red Wings.
The 35-year-old veteran is regarded as one of America’s best hockey players. Having been picked as the number one draft in the 2007 NHL draft, Kane has achieved huge success with the Chicago Blackhawks. After leaving the Blackhawks in 2022-23 and ending a 16-year stay with them, he went on a brief stint with the New York Rangers before becoming a free agent.
Over the past few weeks, names of several teams had emerged who were trying to sign him. Kane though made up his mind and decided to join the Red Wings on a $2.75 million deal. He would share this huge development on his official X account and say he was excited to start. “So excited to join the Detroit Red Wings!,” he wrote in his post.
This move from the team will now see him reunite with his former teammate Alex DeBrincat. The two have enjoyed success with each other in the past and had two 40-goal seasons between them. His return from his hip surgery will now be more crucial as the Red Wings try to make it to the playoffs this season.
