Pittsburgh Penguins with their recent 2-4 loss to New York Islanders have successfully let go of their playoff spot as of now. Sidney Crosby prior to the game with the Islanders reiterated how important it was for them to win this game, especially with Tristan Jarry back in the lineup.
The Penguins had their roster lined up with top players against the Islanders who were missing their star player Matthew Barzal due to a long-term injury. They had plenty of chances to turn the game around, but Jarry’s mistake in 3rd round turned the tune against the Pens.
It wasn’t only Crosby who was frustrated, but Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, Mike Sullivan, Jarry, and others. They now carry a 27-20-9 score into the next game as the regular season is on the verge of ending.
Prior to the game against the Islanders’, Crosby noted on Twitter, “There are a bunch of teams fighting for a couple of spots right now. Every point is important, obviously with it being a divisional game – and not being able to get at least a point against them the last time, it becomes more important.”

Sidney Crosby fails to secure win with Penguins despite 2023 playoff rush
Fans who already have been depressed by the Penguins’ string of losses, have yet to come out from the slump for the time being. In their last 10 outings, the Pens have recorded a 4-4-2 record after losing back-to-back games.
Sidney Crosby after his -3 performance against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday tried to bring his A+ on ice, as he leads the Pens not only as their captain but also as their scorer. His failure to do so, combining his team’s distorted play has yet again earned them another loss.
Mike Sullivan commented on Tristan Jarry’s performance, “I thought he was pretty solid most of the night. When he’s at his best, he probably doesn’t give up those the goals late”. “But to his defense, he hasn’t played in a while and so we’re trying to we’re trying to get him back in game shape.”
Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin snatched the spotlight of the match after blocking Kris Letang’s shot in the 2nd period. Letang commented on the loss, “You have to believe in the group we have”.
“We have a group with experience. Guys who want to win. Guys who know how to find ways to win. You just stick with it, and eventually, we’ll get out of this.” Bryan Rust didn’t shy away from letting his anger known. He told that every Penguins players need to bring out their best for the next few games if they want to secure a 2023 playoff spot.
He said, “You just have to find it within yourself”. “Everybody knows what they bring to this team. Everybody knows their strengths and their weaknesses. Everybody just has to focus on bringing their game.”
Sullivan who was undoubtedly pretty upset about the team’s loss didn’t bother filtering his thoughts as he said, “It was a similar circumstance, I think, to the way the game was played on Long Island (Friday)”. “Instead of finding a way to win, we found a way to lose. We made a couple of mistakes and ended up on the back of our net.”
