The Penguins fan, Rob Barrie attended the game at Pittsburg after flying all the way from the United Kingdom. Though it may not seem like a big deal, Rob was a special Pittsburg fan. He suffered from Motor Neurone Disease and wasn’t in any condition to fly over for a game.

Yet he did and enjoyed the win Penguins served that night. Not only did he get to see his favorite team, but also got to meet with his idols, Bryan Rust and club legend and team captain Sidney Crosby

He took his sweet time greeting them and in turn got mementos from the legends. Unfortunately, his meeting turned into a nightmare. Rob would have never imagined he would experience this horror in his lifetime.

As Rob was planning the trip for quite a long time, his family saved funds to send him on the trip. All went well, and Rob returned to his homeland feeling uncontrollable happiness until it all turned upside down. Before making his way back home, Rob was gifted two sticks signed by his favorite players.

Frighteningly when he checked his bag containing the twigs, he found the container empty at British Airways. To his shock, his precious memento wasn’t there anymore. Rob’s mother Lynn said, “When I met him at the airport he was just sobbing his eyes out”.

“This was Rob’s dream trip and he has been planning it for months. He is very unwell and for Rob to fly all the way there took so much out of him. He pushed himself to the limit but it was the chance of a lifetime.”

Later they found out that the bag containing Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust’s signed hockey sticks never left the Pittsburg airport. British Airways tracked down his mementos and it is said to reach Rob by Christmas. What a happy Christmas he would have now! Maybe Santa had a hand in finding his belongings.

The trip that Rob made all the way wasn’t in vain after all, as his mother spoke, “We had been hoping they would turn up then I got a call from British Airways to say that they had found them I could not believe it I just started shouting out to Rob.”

“They will be home before Christmas which is all Rob cares about. When they were lost and he was broken-hearted he felt like some part of him was missing but now the journey is complete.”
