It may be a stretch to say that the Pittsburg Penguins heavily depend upon Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang, but the scores speak, right? Undoubtedly this trio has accomplished many feats, while others looked upon their bonds with jealousy.

Recently Crosby joined the 800th ultra-exclusive club with the legendary Mario Lemieux. Apart from his current and past accomplishments, the Penguins trio has always been together in all ups and down, on and off-ice.

On October 14, Twitter released a post that kept many people wondering about the miracles that brought all the legends under one umbrella. The Penguins trio joined a privileged sports club with Yankees’ legendary trio Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Jorge Posada.

Being a veteran NHL team, they joined the MLB group as the only North American major professional team. On 13 October, the Penguins trio opened their 17th season together against the Arizona Coyotes. The only team who had such a power trio and who played for 17 seasons are the Yankees stars.

Jeter, Mariano, and Jorge played together from 1995 to 2011, whereas Crosby, Letang, and Malkin joined the group in the 2007-08 season till now. They won the Stanley Cup three times in 2009, 2016, and 2017. While the Yankees trio won World Series in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009.

We must also not forget how Crosby stood strong when Malkin and Letang’s contract period was over with the Penguins. There was a rumor going on that the trio may split after this season, as Malkin and Letang had different thoughts on it.

Both at first failed to come to a contract agreement, but later sorted out their differences with the organization. Thank god they did! Otherwise, we’ll miss seeing the stars taking the ice. Crosby, Malkin, and Letang jointly played 3,030 games, scoring 1,105 goals, and 3,200 points.

They won 103 Stanley Cup playoffs, while their 2022-23 season is still underway. Malkin signed a contract of $24.4 million for 4-years with a cap hit of $6.1 million. Crosby is currently running with a base salary of $3 million, carrying a cap hit of $8.7 million.

Letang on the other hand holds a base salary of $4 million with a cap hit of $6.1 million. This season plagued the Penguins with injuries, though Letang returned to the team recently within two weeks of having his second stroke.

His return greatly affected the mood of the team and contributed to their following wins. Malkin was reported dealing with an injury, but returned to the team, leading them to win their recent match in a playoff-win style.

Needless to say, Crosby’s recent 800th club achievement might have just outshined everything else. Sid the Kid, rocked the ice by joining Mario Lemieux as the only 2nd player in the franchise. Everyone’s awed by his game, as the Penguins stated that Crosby is “aging like a fine wine”.
