“Signed!” – Sidney Crosby happy to have Kris Letang back, waiting for Evgeni Malkin to re-sign

Kris Letang, and Sidney Crosby

Pittsburg Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is happy to have his longtime friend and teammate back on the team. Kris Letang will once again skate on the ice and we can see the duo playing back-to-back matches in the foreseeable future. Only Evgeni Malkin has yet to re-sign with the Penguins. There’s also doubt about how much longer he himself will continue with the sport.

Crosby spoke to Josh Yohe of The Athletic late Thursday evening and noted that he is “happy” for Letang and he is looking forward to playing with him for the rest of the defenseman’s contract, which is nearly six years. As of now, Sidney Crosby has three years left on his contract worth $104.4 million for 12 years. He is still contemplating whether he will be extending the contract further or not.

Kris Letang signed a 6-year $36.6 million deal with the team, with a given annual average value of $6.1 million approximately. Only Malkin’s return will now make the trio complete. Crosby told Yohe, “Hopefully Geno is next”. The trio of players have been together for 16 seasons now and has never missed the playoffs during this time. This is the longest streak of players in North American sports.

They’ve made it to the Stanley Cup four times while winning three times, according to audacy.com. Letang, Crosby, head coach Mike Sullivan, and general manager Ron Hextall all want Malkin back. He himself wants to retire as a Penguin. Only the management and Malkin have to come up with an agreeable deal now. Though Malkin may need to consider a bit related to the offer term.

National Hockey League Insider Dennis Bernstein told the Fan Morning Show on Friday, that Malkin is worth something between $5.5 to $6 million as of now. And he doesn’t see many teams offering anything above this line. Pittsburg will be the best course of action considering the pros and cons. There is a possibility of the Florida Panthers offering a 1-year deal, but Malkin is unlikely to consider it.
