He further jokes that he’ll take “pizza” as the training fee during an interview on The FAN Morning Show. although NHL is ever-evolving, Pezzetta’s throwback celebratory style energized the fans in the arena.
In the podcast, he stated, “I should’ve given him a lesson before he did it – he wasn’t very good at it”. “He wasn’t low enough on his stick. He owes me a pizza for doing it. That’s my royalty on that deal.”
Michael Pezzetta pulls off the iconic Tiger Williams pose
Tiger Williams would often demonstrate his iconic pose whenever he dealt with a goal. The instance can be dated back to 1980, 20 years before the Canadiens forward was even born. Micahel Pezzetta stated that during that time, he thought it was only right to pull off the move, exciting the crowd further.
“It was my first game back in Toronto after being traded to Vancouver – there was no thought process”. “It just happened, and that’s the way sports are supposed to be – it’s supposed to be spontaneous,” Tiger stated, thinking back at the birth of his iconic pose.
After the win against Sabres, Pezzetta commented to the reporters on his throwback to Tiger, “It was definitely a tribute to Tiger Williams”. “I think I was just like: Heck, I might never get a chance where if I score it’s to win the game. I know maybe it was a little bit much. But it’s funny and I think I’ll definitely remember it.”
He further stated, “I thought it was funny”. “I was just pure adrenalin and it was something I thought about maybe sleeping at night and I was just like: Heck, let’s just do it. I haven’t watched (Williams) live, but I’ve seen him do that celly and I’ve watched a few of his games (on video) and he was always an entertainer.”
Pezzetta confirmed that he never practiced this pose before, but was glad to pull it off before the Montreal crowd. Maybe that’s why Tiger even offered to teach him the ropes, to polish his skill prior to his next on-ice chance. Pezzetta said that it was “definitely exciting and something I’ll never forget.”
