San Jose Sharks alternate captain Tomas Hertl leaves NHL ice with a suspension on his head, for the first time in his 10 years professional career. He high-sticked Calgary Flames alternate captain Elias Lindholm after the latter cross-checked Hertl several times.

Whether it be due to frustration or something else, the Sharks forward ended up being suspended for two games for the high-sticking penalty. Furthermore, he’ll go without pay for his first tasted NHL suspension.

Tomas Hertl and Elias Lindholm’s faceoff came off during the 3rd period as the Flames snatched the 5-2 victory from the jaws of the Sharks. After crosschecking Hert a few times, the frustrated forward ended up retaliating against Lindholm by swinging his stick in his face.

As of now, Hert has accumulated points with 11 goals and 21 assists in 33 games. He is running on a contract of $65,100,000 million with the San Jose Sharks for 8 years. His signing bonus includes $23,550,000 with an annual average of $8,137,500 million.

In 2022, Hertl has a base salary of $5,750,000 million with a signing bonus of $2,500,000 million. From here he’ll have two games worth of payment cut off due to his suspension. Players Emergency Assistance Fund will receive Hertl’s money from these two plays.

According to nhl.com, the 29-year-old participated in 618 NHL games with the Sharks, while scoring 192 goals, and 227 assists in 419 points. In 2022-23 he recorded 32 points with 11 goals and 21 assists in 33 games played.

In the video, it can be seen that Lindholm kind of started pushing Hertl back when the forward retaliated and smacked him across his face. He even charged toward Lindholm, but thankfully the official intervened, stopping the play.

Lindholm was a crucial part of the Flames and joined the group not too long ago. Just a few days back he was issued with an upper-body injury along with MacKenzie Weegar. Although he joined Sunday’s play and once again took a hit from Sharks forward Hertl.
