Just like that the season is over. On Tuesday night, the Vegas Golden Knights claimed their ultimate crown as they emerged winners of the 2023 Stanley Cup. The Golden Knights came into the game with heavy spirits and crushed the Florida Panthers 9-3 in the fifth game. This marked their maiden title in their six-year history.

In 2017 it seemed that owner Bill Foley had won the jackpot when he got the opportunity to claim an NHL team. The Vegas Golden Knights in their short history, soon become a force to be reckoned with. This season they finished top of their division and fought some hard battles to get through to the final. Their last test before glory came in the form of the Panthers.

The Cats had been a surprise package this season. After eliminating the Boston Bruins, they knocked out the Maple Leafs. Soon the talks of a fairytale ending started to show up. However, it did not turn out the way they hoped as the Panthers had to settle for the runners-up spot.

Golden Knights captain Mark Stone stepped up to the event. Though his side was leading the series 3-1, strange things and comebacks have taken place before. The pressure was as much on them as it was on their opponents. Stone scored a hat-trick to ensure his team will cross the line in style. He became the first player to do since Peter Forsberg in 1996 for the Colorado Avalanche.

The Vegas Golden Knights entered Game 5 knowing that the destiny was in their hands. The team was backed by a loud crowd in the stands, who were cheering them with everything they had got. They did not disappoint their fans. In big games like this, it is the important players that are looked on for inspiration.

The Panthers offence which had swept the Carolina Hurricanes in the previous round struggled to make an impact throughout the series. The huge scoreline of 9-3 signaled the difference between the two sides. Here are some reactions from Twitter celebrating this huge milestone for the Golden Knights.

Though it was a collective team performance, one player that stood on top was Adan Hill. He was one of the five goaltenders used by the Knights in the regular season. He though cemented his place in the starting line-up after an injury to Laurent Brossoit. Hill then went to the postseason with a record of 11-4 while making some crucial saves.

Meanwhile, his teammate Jonathan Marchessault won the Conn Smythe trophy after scoring 13 goals in the latter stages. This is it for the current season. The Golden Knights will no doubt party hard over the next few days. They will return to defend their crown next season in October as the NHL season goes into a four-month break.
