Nia Jax gets compared to Hulk Hogan after weak chair shots (via WWE)
Many fans were unhappy to see Nia Jax make her return to WWE in 2023. She was notorious for being sloppy and dangerous in the ring. While she has improved tremendously over the past year, fans got to witness an older, sloppier side of the Irresistible Force in her match at Survivor Series: WarGames.
Jax opened the WarGames match for her team and had a singles brawl against her long-time rival, Bayley. It wasn’t long until other competitors started entering the match, bringing in weapons. The Samoan’s teammate, Candice LeRae, tossed in a few steel chairs, and she started swinging them at The Role Model and Naomi.
Unfortunately, these chair shots weren’t executed too well. She lifted the chair, and it seemed like she was about to hit Naomi with a steel chair flush on the head. However, she halted her momentum, lowered her hands, and then hit her on the side. This was probably because she didn’t want to deliver an unprotected chair shot to the former TNA star.

Similarly, while swinging at Bayley, she stopped her hands in the air and wanted her opponent to bend over slightly so that the chair hit her back instead of her head. Even when these chair shots were delivered, they felt highly underwhelming and soft. Eventually, the WWE Women’s Champion lost the match after Rhea Ripley pinned Liv Morgan in WarGames.

Wrestling fans immediately started bringing up comparisons between Nia Jax and Hulk Hogan for these chair shots. The Hulkster was infamous for using weapons in a soft manner. However, one incident that took place at WCW Nitro forever cemented him in history. The Hall of Famer used a steel chair on the Big Show, lightly tapping him on the head without any momentum. However, the Giant completely oversold it as if he suffered devastating physical trauma to the head.
Some fans still commended Nia Jax for being safe. She already has a history of injuring various superstars. It was good to see her try to change that, especially when it comes to unprotected chair shots to the head. Besides, the WWE Universe would most definitely prefer sub-par work over someone suffering a concussion or long-term injury.

Yep let’s just focus on the negative. Women cooked yet the chair shots from pretty much all were terrible. Some spots didn’t quite hit well but the match really cooked when all 10 were in there

To be fair to Nia, chair headshots are prohibited. It’s on Bailey and Naomi to get in position for a chair shot.

Jax was also not the only one in this Survivor Series: WarGames match who faced such criticisms. Overall, the use of weapons in this match, especially with objects like toilet seat covers, felt highly sloppy and forced. Some netizens even found the match quite boring until the final few minutes, where things picked up immensely.
