The tennis world is well aware of how Nick Kyrgios frequently censured Jannik Sinner because of the doping scandal. Sinner tested positive for the banned steroid clostebol during physiotherapy sessions last year.
However, since he didn’t receive a lengthy ban, it sparked a huge controversy. The anti-doping agencies were accused of giving preferential treatment to the World No.1 due to his high-profile status. Kyrgios even accused Sinner of using clostebol to enhance his performance.
But during the All on the Table podcast, Kyrgios told Serena Williams‘ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou that he doesn’t want the same thing to happen to Sinner again. The coach and the player chose which player between Sinner and Alcaraz will end their career with more titles.
Mouratoglou picked Alcaraz, while Kyrgios chose Sinner and joked, “Kyrgios on team Sinner. Something we haven’t heard“. The 30-year-old then explained why Sinner’s doping scandal made him furious.
But you know this is just…it was frustrating for me, you know, especially because I’m going through a lot of injuries. But I just think that obviously the treatment as well for other players wasn’t the same, with some of the same things as well. You know, there were more Italian players that did it, and it was different. So…but it’s done now.
Kyrgios then praised Sinner for making a strong comeback, calling it “crazy” and “pretty incredible“. When Naomi Osaka‘s coach opined that the way the anti-doping agencies treated Sinner was “right“, that they should’ve followed the exact process in other players’ cases, the Aussie agreed.
It has to be same for everybody. Yeah, it was a mess. But it’s done now. Hopefully, it doesn’t happen again.

Kyrgios was last seen in action at the Miami Open. He has only played four tournaments this season, including at the Australian Open, and has skipped the French Open and Wimbledon due to injury issues.
Andrea Petkovic makes her feelings known on Jannik Sinner’s improvement comment after Wimbledon win
After Jannik Sinner‘s 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, the World No.1, at the press conference, claimed that the Spaniard did something better than him during the match. Andrea Petkovic, during the Becker Petkovic podcast, said Sinner was perhaps talking about his net game.

He didn’t say anything specific, but that’s absurd. You win a match 3-1, you’re the dominant player, and he’s sitting there, saying, ‘I noticed today there are things Carlos does better, I have to do things differently’.
With this win, the four-time Grand Slam champion improved his head-to-head record over Alcaraz to 5-8. He registered his first win over the five-time Grand Slam champion after losing five consecutive matches, one of which was the French Open final. Had Alcaraz won that match, he would have completed the Channel Slam for two consecutive seasons, becoming the second man after Bjorn Borg to do so.
His victory would have also made him the fifth man in the Open Era to win three consecutive Wimbledon titles after Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic. In the last two Wimbledon finals, Alcaraz had defeated the 24-time Grand Slam champion, but the Serb this time lost to Sinner in the semifinals.
Both Sinner and Alcaraz will next focus on the North American hard-court swing. They are on the entry list of the Canadian Open, which Alcaraz had skipped last year. Sinner was defeated in the quarterfinals by eventual runner-up Andrey Rublev.
At the US Open (which Alcaraz had won in 2022), Sinner will aim to defend his title. Last year in the final, he defeated home favorite Taylor Fritz in straight sets.
