Nicolas Mahut had urged Nick Kyrgios to be ‘realistic’ while giving his opinion on Jannik Sinner‘s doping controversy. Mahut said there was no need for Kyrgios to inflame the situation and that if the Aussie, who would be making his comeback, plays against Sinner at the Australian Open, then even with the crowd backing Kyrgios, the World No.1 will win in straight sets.
Kyrgios was indifferent to Mahut’s concerns as he downplayed the Frenchman’s opinions while comparing their singles results. The 29-year-old said as he has better results than Mahut in singles, he doesn’t care too much about what the former doubles World No.1 has to say.
Mahut, who is a former World No. 37 in singles, has never gone past the fourth round in Grand Slam events of this category. In Grand Slam doubles, however, he has won five titles and also lifted the ATP Tour title twice. Kyrgios, who won the 2022 Australian Open doubles, is yet to win a major in singles but has advanced to the final of 2022 Wimbledon.
Nick Kyrgios is confident about giving his all when he makes his return
Nick Kyrgios will be returning to tennis for the first time since last playing the 2023 Stuttgart Open. He will be competing at the Brisbane International, where he is also set to join forces with Novak Djokovic for doubles. Kyrgios is confident that he will give his all to challenge Grand Slam champions Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Sinner and Alcaraz won the four Majors in 2024. Kyrgios has never met Alcaraz but was defeated by Sinner in straight sets when they met in the 2022 Miami Open.
