Nick Kyrgios has not been afraid to criticize Jannik Sinner since it was announced that the Italian failed two drug tests. The Australian star took another dig at the World No. 1 after defending his team-up with Simona Halep at the 2024 World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi. The exhibition tournament is scheduled to run from December 19 to 22.
Halep was banned for four years after testing positive for the banned substance Roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. The Romanian star was forced to appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). After a lengthy battle, her suspension was reduced to nine months in March this year. However, the decision also meant that she had to start her ranking from scratch.
On the other hand, Sinner failed two drug tests as he tested positive for clostebol in March. But the Italian was left to continue playing after successfully appealing against his provisional suspension, and it was not until August that the case was fully made public. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found no significant fault or negligence on his part and was cleared.
Recently, an X user highlighted a post of Kyrgios saying in an Instagram Q&A that he will never play alongside Sinner in the doubles because the World No. 1 is not a clean athlete. The post also featured the poster of Simona Halep joining the World Tennis League. Kyrgios responded to the tweet in the comments saying that Halep had dealt with the consequences of her doping case.
Uh she dealt with the consequences lol – unlike sinner who has been able to play the whole time

However, Kyrgios has relentlessly attacked Sinner and also the process, claiming that players are treated differently because of their ranking positions. He also believes that the 23-year-old should take responsibility and was supposed to be banned.
Nick Kyrgios says he has “nothing personal” against Iga Swiatek despite his continuous criticism of her doping case
Iga Swiatek has also been criticized by Nick Kyrgios since the ITIA announced her doping violation. The Polish star tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine in August and was provisionally suspended for three weeks, which caused her to miss the entirety of the Asian swing.
However, like Jannik Sinner’s case, the ITIA also found her to be of no significant fault for the doping violation after successfully proving that her melatonin medication was contaminated before use. In a recent conversation on the Nothing Major podcast, Kyrgios revealed the reason behind his criticism of Swiatek.
Swiatek ended her 2024 season representing Poland at the Billie Jean King Cup. She will be back in action at the Australian Open which starts on January 12.
