- Jannik Sinner is pursuing his fourth consecutive Masters 1000 title in Madrid.
- Nick Kyrgios expressed willingness to have dinner with Sinner despite past criticisms.
- Sinner is on a 20-match winning streak and aims to make history by winning all four Masters 1000 events this season.
Jannik Sinner is in Madrid, chasing his fourth consecutive Masters 1000 title of the season. Last year, he couldn’t play in the Spanish capital because of his three-month doping ban.
In 2024, when it came into light that Sinner failed the drug test, Nick Kyrgios was one of the critics who frequently issued scathing attacks on the four-time Grand Slam champion. Kyrgios was among many who were convinced that the reason Sinner escaped a strict punishment from the anti-doping bodies was because of his high-profile status.
In spite of censuring the World No.1, Kyrgios also often lauded Sinner for his on-court performance. On Instagram story, a user asked him this: “Would you ever have 1 on 1 dinner plans with Sinner?” And Kyrgios’ answer was: “I would“.
Check out his story here:

Sinner was provisionally suspended for just two weeks at first, but it was not revealed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) until August. The ITIA, in its verdict, while announcing Sinner’s failed doping test, declared him innocent because he successfully provided the source of contamination within the deadline.
Sinner was contaminated by the banned anabolic steroid clostebol during a physiotherapy session as his then physio Giacomo Naldi used a spray containing that steroid to treat a cut on his finger. The spray was bought by his fitness trainer, Umberto Ferrara, from Italy.
After a lot of drama, which also involved the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Sinner finally heaved a sigh of relief in January last year. WADA had previously appealed before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), challenging ITIA’s verdict, but it withdrew its appeal and instead handed Sinner just a three-month ban.
At that time, Sinner had already defended his Australian Open title, and the timing of the ban ensured his comeback before Roland Garros. And as expected, WADA’s decision only added to the controversy. But the tennis world started to forget about the scandal thanks to his strong on-court performance.
Jannik Sinner will face Rafael Jodar in the Madrid Open quarterfinal
Jannik Sinner is on a 20-match winning streak this year, thanks to his wins at the Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open, and the Monte-Carlo Masters, and reaching the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open for the second time in his career. Sinner, the eighth man to complete the Sunshine Double, is also only the second man, after Novak Djokovic, to win the first three Masters 1000 of the season.

I know how hard it is to win matches, so achieving 20 consecutive wins is something special. But at the same time, I don’t dwell on it too much. Each day you face a different opponent, and you just try to be better than them that day. Conditions change, schedules, opponents… today, for example, my opponent was left-handed, and you have to make adjustments. I don’t think about the streak; I just try to put myself in the best possible position to win as many matches as I can.
Jannik Sinner said at the press conference
Up against him next is Spanish sensation Rafael Jodar. The 19-year-old knocked out Alex de Minaur before overcoming Joao Fonseca. In the fourth round, he beat Vit Kopriva.
I watched his entire match against Fonseca. It was of a very high level. And I have a feeling it won’t be the only time we face each other. He has a lot of talent. It would be interesting to play against him before major tournaments like Rome or Roland Garros.
Jannik Sinner added
If Sinner wins the Madrid Open, he will become the first man in history to win the first four Masters 1000 of the season. Jodar will be playing a Masters 1000 quarterfinal for the first time in his career.
