Nick Kyrgios has criticized Andy Roddick for taking sides with Jannik Sinner, amid the Italian doping controversy. Sinner tested positive twice for clostebol, a banned substance, but has been allowed to continue playing by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).

Sinner provided conclusive evidence for his defense to an independent tribunal set up by the ITIA. The Italian stated clostebol made its way into his system when his psychotherapist had massaged him with a spray containing the banned substance.

On Tuesday (August 22), the ITIA reported that it wouldn’t suspend the 23-year-old but stripped him of his Indian Wells ranking points and prize money. This saw several prominent players and legends of the sport condemn the ITIA’s decision while also calling for stricter punishment.

Notably, one of them was Kyrgios, who admitted that the Italian called for Sinner to be suspended for two years. However, Roddick sided with Sinner, dismissing the talk that the World No. 1 was treated preferentially by the tennis body. He also added that the Italian was never contaminated with the substance during the Australian Open.

Kyrgios disagreed with the American legend on social media revealing that his statement was ridiculous.

Do you understand how quickly this stuff exits your system? Cream, gummies literally hours. Ridiculous statement.

An X user then questioned Kyrgios’s statement against Roddick, leading the Australian to react with anger. Roddick then replied, correcting his English rather than staying on the topic of discussion.Kyrgios then hit out to Roddick, asking for an explanation of the American legend’s prior statement about Sinner.

Research Dumb a*s.
Nick Kyrgios said
Dumba*s is one word.
Andy Roddick reacted
Thanks for the heads up. Could you also explain what prohibited at all time means?

Jannik Sinner will hope to put doping controversy behind with title bid at US Open

Jannik Sinner will hope that the doping controversy doesn’t affect his performance on the court at the US Open. The Italian became the only men’s player to win two Masters 1000 title this season when he defeated Frances Tiafoe in the final of the Cincinnati Open.

The Italian has won five titles this season, including the Australian Open in January. He will open his US Open campaign against American MacKenzie McDonald. He will likely face home favorite Alex Michelsen in the second round before a possible meeting with Swiss legend Stan Wawrinka in the third round.

Sinner’s best run in the US Open came in 2022 when he reached the quarterfinals but failed to advance after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller that lasted more than five hours. He will likely meet Alcaraz in the semifinals this year, if he manages to come through a possbile quarterfinal clash with Daniil Medvedev.
