Nick Kyrgios has come to Novak Djokovic’s defense amid criticism from fans regarding Djokovic’s recent behavior at the Paris Olympics. Monday’s (July 29) second-round match was one of the tournament’s most anticipated events, featuring two legends of the game.

Djokovic was up against Rafael Nadal in arguably the most-awaited match of the tournament. For the first time in months, the Serbian was in peak form, displaying both top-level tennis and heightened aggression. Every shot was charged with intense emotion, which, despite his impressive performance, did not sit well with some fans.

The crowd was cheering on Nadal for the majority of the match, and the Serbian had a perfect reaction to it after breaking the Spaniard. He points in his ear as he signs to the crowd. This was a usual crowd-Djokovic interaction, but the comments online were a bit more harsh

Nick Kyrgios, no stranger to online trolling, often hits back at comments on tennis players. The Australian, known for his own confrontational behavior, has frequently supported Novak Djokovic. As a fellow “bad boy” of tennis, Kyrgios understands the challenges Djokovic faces and empathizes with him.

He inched another step closer to that dream after beating Rafael Nadal in the second round on Monday. That was one match where he played with raw emotions behind every shot. Even though he struggled a bit in the second set, but got back in the flow to win the match 6-1, 6-4.

Now, the Serbian will take on Germany’s Dominik Koepfer in the third round today at 12:00 pm local time. Koepfer and Nole have faced only once before, where the World No. 2 won the ATP Masters 1000 Rome Quarterfinal clash in three sets.
