Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been the best players in the men’s circuit for a good amount of time now. Having produced more consistent results than other players on tour, they are now being compared with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. However, Nick Kyrgios believes the duo are nowhere near the Big 3’s level in tennis.

For over a decade, Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic dominated the men’s singles circuit, winning almost every title there have been. Federer won 103 singles titles, including 20 Grand Slams and 28 ATP Masters 1000 crowns. Nadal claimed 92 singles titles, including 22 Grand Slams and 36 ATP 1000 titles, while Djokovic has 100 titles, including 24 majors and 40 Masters.

Beyond the titles, the three legends brought out the best in each other due to their competitiveness on the court and challenged each other for titles. Federer and Nadal retired in 2022 and 2024, respectively, while Djokovic keeps playing despite being 38. He reached the Wimbledon semi-finals before losing to Sinner in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Sinner and Alcaraz have won three and five Grand Slams, respectively. They have also faced each other twelve times on the court, with their thirteenth meeting at the Wimbledon Championship final. Alcaraz leads their head-to-head record 8-5.

In a conversation on TNT Sports, Nick Kyrgios spoke about the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner. However, he then added that the two stars are nowhere near the level of the Big 3 on the court:

Let’s put to bed the conversation that these two are near the three ‘GOATs’ of our sport. These three paved the way for all these players. Eventually, they will get to some pretty incredible numbers, but right now, prime Roger, Rafa and Novak are untouchable.

Sinner and Alcaraz have won all of the last 7 Grand Slams (Sinner 4 and Alcaraz 3). This year, Sinner claimed the Australian Open before the Spaniard defended the French Open, where he came from two sets down to beat his arch-rival. At Wimbledon, Sinner got the better of him in 4 sets.

Former WTA player believes Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have replaced Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal’s rivalry

Jannik Sinner ended Novak Djokovic’s hopes of winning his 25th Grand Slam after beating him 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-finals. It was the second consecutive Grand Slam that Sinner had defeated Djokovic and the fifth consecutive time he has triumphed over the 38-year-old on tour, which now sees him lead their head-to-head record 6-4.

During the aforementioned conversation, former WTA player CoCo Vandeweghe revealed that Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have seamlessly replaced the Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal rivalry on the court:

It seamlessly replaces Roger and Rafa for sure. I’m throwing it out there. This is going to be a rivalry for the ages. I think the contrast of the personalities fits well, their games pose such different questions that they have to manage on different surfaces. They’re meeting on every single one and the rest of the field has to play massive catch-up.

Alcaraz had reached the final of Wimbledon after beating Taylor Fritz in four sets. It was the Spaniard’s third consecutive Wimbledon final. Unfortunately, he couldn’t achieve the three-peat he had been yearning for.
