Even though Jannik Sinner won his seventh tour-level title of the season and became the first Italian to win the Shanghai Masters by beating Novak Djokovic, he once again faced criticism. Nick Kyrgios, who hasn’t forgotten Sinner’s two failed doping tests and his avoiding a harsh punishment, continued to take brutal jibes at the youngster.
On X after Sinner’s win, the Aussie dropped a comment that implied that Sinner won the title because of consuming the performance-enhancing steroid, clostebol. As per the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), an independent tribunal cleared Sinner of all wrongdoing after he was accidentally contaminated due to his ex-physio Giacomo Naldi.
Like many fans, players, and ex-players from the tennis community, Kyrgios is not ready to accept ITIA’s verdict as many players have faced severe punishments in the past despite consuming a banned substance without knowing. Although many accuse the ITIA of not following the ‘same’ procedure in other players’ doping cases, Kyrgios has never minced his words while slamming Sinner as he continues to accuse him of using the drug to win matches.
So when on X, a user wrote how Sinner’s opponents in every final might have been thinking of how the World No. 1 shouldn’t even have been playing, Kyrgios also agreed with the views. He simply wrote, “Yep. Ridiculous lol“.

Giacomo Naldi opens up about Jannik Sinner’s doping controversy
Jannik Sinner‘s ex-physio Giacomo Naldi used a spray that was given to him by the player’s fitness trainer Umberto Ferrara, bought from Italy. The spray had clostebol and as Naldi massaged Sinner with his bare hand, the substance entered the player’s body through the lesions on his skin. After the ITIA’s verdict, Sinner parted ways with both Naldi and Ferrara. Naldi has now opened up about the controversy.
Sinner failed the doping tests in March this year during and after the Indian Wells, due to which the points and the prize money he won from the tournament were taken away. He is also waiting for the Court of Arbitration of Sports’ (CAS) decision. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) had appealed to the CAS in September and demanded a ban.
