For years, the echoes of doubt have lingered over the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2020 NBA Championship. Critics and fans alike have tried to chip away at its legitimacy, pointing to the unique circumstances of the COVID-19 bubble. The disruption of a traditional playoff series where the teams have to play on both home and away turfs became the basis for calling it a Bubble Championship.

Pointing out fewer distractions, key players opting out, and a perceived lack of competitiveness. Many tried to diminish greatness simply because it didn’t look like what they expected. But Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright wasn’t having it. He stepped into the conversation on his podcast, What’s Wright? with Nick Wright, with clarity and conviction.

To the critics, the naysayers, and those who tried to write off the Lakers’ accomplishment, he offered not just words but a wake-up call. In addition, Wright indirectly took a swipe at the Lakers’ supertstar LeBron James‘ haters in the process.

Ultimately, this discussion is not about how real or fake a title is… this discussion is about either dislike or jealousy of LeBron James.

Now, Wright did not stop here. He provided a clear explanation as to why people may have an agenda towards LeBron James and the Lakers winning the championship in the bubble. He went as far as to point out the Lakers’ tough path in the NBA playoffs during the bubble.

For example, facing the likes of Damian Lillard in round 1, then the Houston Rockets in round 2, and Nikola Jokic and his top Denver Nuggets side in round 3 of the playoffs back during the bubble. The team defeated the Miami Heat in the finals to secure the championship.

The ‘Bubble Championship’ recently came into the NBA limelight after an executive spoke about it. One of them in particular was the Philadelphia 76ers’ president, Daryl Morey, who called the bubble title ‘illegitimate.’

Daryl Morey, the Sixers president, criticized the Lakers‘ 2020 NBA title in an interview with The Athletic recently. As per Morey, he did not agree with the Lakers winning due to the restrictions imposed on the players.

Morey claimed that the people that he spoke to in and around the league don’t believe that this bubble title holds a genuine championship legitimacy. As soon as Morey made these comments, it was given that some of the Lakers would react.

It was none other than LeBron James who chimed back on this matter, providing a fitting reply to Morey and his take on the 2020 NBA bubble championship. James took to his Instagram to put forward his views.

Say whatever you want but you damn sure won’t be able to say I didn’t put in the WORK. We’ll see what happens when I no longer exist.

Recently, the community saw a lot of stories about the rumors surrounding James’s possible trade. But the 40-year-old’s back-and-forth with the 76ers general manager has stirred up the ‘bubble’ controversy and another former player has given his two cents.

Kendrick Perkins drops the hammer on the 2020 Lakers’ bubble championship

As soon as Morey made these remarks, the whole NBA world, such as fans, critics, and analysts, was on high alert. James’ reaction to this added to the ongoing controversy. Now, NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins chimed in on this matter. Perkins claimed that the 2020 NBA Bubble championship was ‘the hardest’ title to achieve.

One could argue that it’s probably the hardest championship to accomplish. Forget an asterisk when you talk about being away from your family, being basically locked up in one place, and probably having to eat the same damn food every single day. God knows what type of practice course they had to do.

Kendrick Perkins said on ESPN

The players’ restricted mobility—they could only go between the practice site and their hotel room was another factor. Despite of all this, the Lakers pulled off a massive win in the bubble. Nevertheless, there are people that still disagree with the ‘Bubble Championship’ and its implications.
