The Kansas City Chiefs are on the verge of scripting history as they attempt to win three consecutive Super Bowls. It would be a great achievement for the whole team, but for tight end Travis Kelce, it would put him up on the Mount Rushmore of tight ends in the NFL.

There is an interesting storyline making rounds. If the Kansas City Chiefs win, Travis Kelce will take the opportunity to propose to Taylor Swift and announce his retirement from the NFL. While it sounds too good to be true, First Things First’s Nick Wright believes one part of the aforementioned theory is plausible; Travis Kelce retiring.

The analyst believes this could be his final NFL game because, after this, he no longer has anything to prove.

If he cared a lot about individual legacy stuff, that in and of itself would be enough to come back for one more year. I think that there is a very real chance that Sunday is Travis’ last game.

Nick Wright said

Wright has this hunch due to a statement the tight end made earlier this week.

Travis Kelce does not lose sleep over his legacy as the GOAT tight-end

Kelce was asked about his desire to retire as the greatest player to play the tight end position to which Kelce responded, “I used to really, really care about that. Now I don’t.” Nick Wright believes that this is a signal that there is not much left for Kelce to accomplish in the NFL and since he is not chasing records any longer, Sunday is likely going to be his last game.

Travis Kelce will need another 206 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns on Sunday if he intends to tie Jerry Rice’s record for most receiving yards and TDs in the post-season. That is the only record left for him to achieve in the playoffs.

At the start of this season, it would have been hard to fathom the thought of Kelce stepping away from football. However, now it does not seem that hard to believe. Realistically, what more is left for him to achieve?

He has spent the better part of the past year and a half setting up the foundation for his post-football career through media and entertainment deals, he has a production house and is an active investor. Travis Kelce has more challenges off the field than on the field now.
