Recently, Daniil Medvedev toppled Roger Federer to get a hold of the World No.4 ranking. After reaping a complete contrast of results when compared to last season, the Russian seems to have found his footing on the courts again.

He lifted the Paris Masters title after showcasing an impressive form. The 24-year old is optimistic yet wary heading into his first battle against Alexander Zverev at the Nitto ATP Finals.

Last year, Medvedev booked a spot in the ATP World Tour Finals for the first time. He did so on the weight of his four ATP Tour titles. However, he didn’t succeed in scoring a single match-win at the coveted event. The World No.4 has revealed that he is itching to get on the scoreboard at The O2 arena.

In an interview with Tennis Majors, Daniil stressed on how he was aiming to leave mark at the tournament this time around.

Reflecting on his loss against Rafael Nadal in 2019 at the O2, Daniil said, “If you lose from 5-1 (in the third set tiebreak) and having a match point, there is no other word to describe it than choke.”

Proceeding to sound optimistic, however, Daniil said, “you just have to learn from this match.” Further, he revealed that his ‘lifestyle’ is what helped him move on from the devastating loss against Rafa.

“Always trying to think more about the present and the future. Because that’s something you can change, or can work on. Because the past you just cannot change. You can only learn from it,” he concluded.
