‘Without Rafa, Novak and Roger, we knew we had an opportunity to win’: Jannik Sinner after Miami Final loss to Hubert Hurkacz
Jannik Sinner and Hubert Hurkacz
ATP 1000 Miami Open Finals, the scoreline, Hubert Hurkacz beat Jannik Sinner 7-6 6-4. In the end Sinner fell short, this was not to be his day. On the other hand, the day belonged to the twenty-four year old from Poland, Hubert Hurkacz.
In all honesty though no tennis fan should complain about Hurkacz winning. Yes he is not the most soothing to the eye, yes he moves with a gangling gait, yes his shots look manufactured but boy did he play well in this tournament or what.
Hurkacz beat a whole bunch of top players en route to his first ATP 1000 Finals. A list that included the likes of Denis Shapovalov, Milos Raonic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev and Jannik Sinner.
Jannik sinner did his part too. Reaching the Finals of an ATP 1000 event at only nineteen is a feat in itself. And he too won against Karen Khachanov, Alexander Bublik, and Roberto Bautista Agut during the course of this tournament.
The next generation is still not ready to win consistently against the Big Three: Jannik Sinner
Jannik sinner said that he came into the tournament with a lot of hope and confidence. He believed without Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer this tournament was a great opportunity for everyone. But Sinner was clearly disappointed with the loss in the finals.
He looked a little unsure, he said he was unclear. And he said all he wants to do is not waste time and get back to work. On the Big three debate, Sinner believes that the next generation of players is not ready to win consistently against Nadal, Djokovic and Federer. But he does believe that that moment will come, and he thinks maybe in three years from now.
Jannik Sinner said, “I came here with the mentality to win. Without Rafa, Novak and Roger, we knew we had an opportunity to win.” Sinner continued, “ I think I can learn many things, but it’s tough now to speak about the match. I’m not clear on it. Back to work, I don’t want to waste time.”
Sinner believes “The next generation is not ready yet to win consistently yet against them (the Big Three). The moment will come, I don’t know when, it can be 3 years or years.”
