Nominees for The ICC Player of the Month – March Announced
The International Cricket Council had come up with a new award from January 2021- The ICC Player of the Month.
The idea was to felicitate the best performer of the month in both men and women category.
Rishabh Pant and Shabnim Ismail were voted as ICC Player of the month for January whereas Ravichandran Ashwin and Tammy Beaumont were voted for February. And now ICC have announced the nominations for the month of March.
ICC Men’s Nominations
Rashid Khan
Rashid Khan was an integral part of the Afghanistan side that won over Zimbabwe. Rashid Khan scalped 11 wickets in the second and only test he played against Zimbabwe and followed that by picking six wickets in the 3 match T20I series which Afghanistan won 3-0.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar played a key role for India team during their limited over series against England. Along with taking wickets Bhuvneshwar Kumar also made sure to control the scoring rate of the opposition. The player grabbed six wickets in three games with an economy of just 4.65 whereas other bowlers gave around 6-7 runs per over. In the T20Is too Bhuvneshwar Kumar impressed everyone with the ball, taking 4 wickets @6.38 runs per over.
Sean Williams
Zimbabwean star, Sean Williams was exceptional in the test series against Afghanistan. The left hander hammered 264 runs in the two tests while also contributing with the ball 2 picking up a couple of wickets. The player also had a decent T20I series where he scored 45 runs at a strike rate of 128.57 in three matches.
ICC Women’s Nominations
Rajeshwari Gayakwad
Indian spinner, Rajeshwari Gayakwad impressed everyone with her bowling in the recently concluded India vs South Africa limited over series. The spinner was the leading wicket-taker for India in both ODIs as well as in T20Is. Rajeshwari Gayakwad grabbed eight wickets @3.56 runs per over and four wickets @4.75 runs per over in ODIs and T20Is respectively.
Lizelle Lee
The South African opener, Lizelle Lee was in outstanding form against India in the ODI series. The player performed consistently for her team notching up a ton and two half-centuries in 4 ODIs. She also moved to the No.1 spot in the ICC Women’s ODI rankings.
Punam Raut
Punam Raut was the star performer for India with the bat against South Africa in the five-match ODI series. She hammered a total of 263 runs with an average of 87.66 which included a brilliant century and two fifties.
