Novak Djokovic aces past Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem in the race for the title of ‘European Sportsperson of the Year’

The European Sportsperson of the Year is an annual sports award. It has a rich legacy which traces back to 1958 and is presented by the Polish Press Agency. This accolade aims to honour the sportsperson who has reaped the most impressive lieu of results in the past year. Further, the likes of Roger Federer and Andy Murray are two of the tennis players on whom this honour has been bestowed in 2017 and 2016 respectively.
In 2020, three tennis aces from the ATP Tour managed to get on the list which aims to find the tally for the laurel. They are; Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem.

The World No.1, Djokovic, topped this honours’ list by winning 85 points, which is miles ahead of all of his adversaries. In the past year, the Serbian recorded a win rate of 89.1%. Further, he claimed his 17th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and won three other titles as well.
Spain’s best and the ‘King of Clay,’ Nadal, scored the second place as he won 72 points. Moreover, the 34-year-old recorded a historic feat when he won his 13th Roland Garros title. By doing so, he equalled Roger Federer’s Grand Slam record on the ATP Tour of 20 titles.
At the third place with 19 points is Austria’s Thiem. In addition, the 27-year-old achieved his life long dream when he claimed the U.S Open title and became a Grand Slam champion. Furthermore, he managed to defeat Rafa and Nole to make a consecutive final at the Nitto ATP Finals.
The trio will next be seen in action at the ATP Cup, which is scheduled to start from 1 February.
