A video involving Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena Djokovic has sparked hilarious reactions from fans on social media. Djokovic and Jelena were engaged in an animated argument during the former’s fourth-round Roland Garros match against 23rd seed Francisco Cerundolo on the Philippe-Chatrier court on June 3. 

This happened during the third game of the decider when the score read 30-30. Djokovic was shouting something to Jelena who was sitting in the box. She got up and responded in a similar fashion and they exchanged a few words.

Djokovic later clinched victory 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals where he is set to face Norway’s Casper Ruud for the seventh time in his career on June 5. The win over Cerundolo was Djokovic’s consecutive victory in five sets, for in the third round, he overcame a Lorenzo Musetti scare. 

The match lasted for more than four hours and ended not before 3 a.m. local time thanks to rain delays. As Djokovic played two five-setters, fans, after watching the mentioned video, remarked that as the husband and wife have no time to argue at home, they decided to do the ‘husband-wife stuff’ during matches.

Fans found it amusing how the husband and wife even got time to argue during a difficult match. Some fans tried to lip-read what Novak Djokovic was saying in Serbian and roughly translated it into English.

A few fans joked that the World No.1 might have been telling her that he would not eat the same food again for dinner, while Jelena Djokovic threatened him that he’d have to eat what she cooks. Another commented that Jelena might have asked him to win the match else she’d give him green beans for dinner again. A fan assumed that Jelena must have threatened him to do the dishes for a week if he loses.

Amidst all these jokes, many fans said Djokovic needs some motivation during his rough phase and Jelena is doing the job. Another fan wrote that Jelena has started working as a coach at the Roland Garros after the tennis player’s split with Goran Ivanisevic, and joked further by saying that his son Stefan would be his coach in the Wimbledon Championship, while daughter Tara would be doing the job in the US Open.

Djokovic slipped several times and hurt his knee during his fourth-round match and later expressed his frustrations. It will be interesting to see how the Serb performs in the quarterfinals.
