Andy Murray, who retired this summer at the Paris Olympics, is set to work with his biggest rival in Melbourne next year. The former World No.1 will be joining Novak Djokovic’s coaching team as the Serbian looks to win his 25th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open 2025.

This season Djokovic has failed to reach the expectations he set in 2023, after ending the year without a tour-level title. He failed to defend the Australian Open in January 2024 after losing to eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. Now, he is eager to bounce back in 2025 and hungry for success on the court again.

Murray made history in 2013 after becoming the first British man to win the Wimbledon in 77 years. Apart from this, one of his most famous career wins was at the 2012 US Open final, where he defeated Djokovic in a five-set thriller 7–6, 7–5, 2–6, 3–6, 6–2.

The duo met 36 times on the court, with Djokovic leading 25-11 overall and 11-8 in finals in their head-to-head record. Both legends will now put their rivalry behind them as Murray seeks to help Djokovic get back to the top of his game.

Djokovic revealed the partnership on social media via a video posted on X:

I am excited to have one of my greatest rivals on the same side of the net as my coach.ooking forward to starting the season and competing in Australia alongside Andy with whom I have shared many exceptional moments on the Australian soil.

In March this year, Djokovic split with his long-term coach Goran Ivanisevic after a poor start to the season. He announced Boris Bošnjaković as his new coach two months later but the partnership has not yielded much success.

Andy Murray is excited at his first coaching job since retiring from tennis in August 2024

After Andy Murray retired from tennis at the Paris Olympics, the British legend revealed he wasn’t going into coaching as he wanted to spend more time with his family. However, the 37-year-old goal has been cut short after his new role as Novak Djokovic’s coach ahead of the 2025 Australian Open.

Murray revealed in a statement that he is excited and looking forward to joining Djokovic’s coaching team. This will be the British legend’s first coaching experience.

I’m going to be joining Novak’s team in the off season, helping him to prepare for the Australian Open. I’m really excited for it and looking forward to spending time on the same side of the net as Novak for a change, helping him to achieve his goals.

Before retiring, Murray struggled with several injuries, including a back injury that required an operation in May. After his last career singles match at the Queen’s Club Championship, he only played in the doubles.
