- Djokovic acknowledges the rise of Italian tennis, praising its recent successes and players like Jannik Sinner.
Novak Djokovic has the most decorated career in tennis. He has won 24 Grand Slams, seven ATP Finals, 101 ATP titles, and an Olympic Gold medal. At the age of 38, when most players decline, the Serb is still trying his best to compete against fatherhood, staying in the top 4 of the ATP Rankings.
Despite having such a prolific career, Djokovic admits there is still something that he wants to achieve before he bids farewell to the sport. The Serb will turn 39 in May. He told Vanity Fair:
For me, they’re not just about results and recognition. Obviously, I’d like to win at least another Grand Slam title, stay healthy, and continue playing for years to come. But there are so many other things I want to be involved in to observe the changes taking place in tennis: I can’t wait to see what the future holds, and I’d like to see it as an active player too. I have so many plans and dreams, especially as a father: I want to be there for my children’s goals, because I travel so much that I’m often away with them and my wife. Then there are so many professional projects that I can’t wait to share with the world.
He did come close to achieving his 25th Grand Slam title earlier this year. The Serb dethroned two-time Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner in five sets in the semifinal, which is arguably the biggest highlight of his last two seasons.
However, Djokovic couldn’t overcome Carlos Alcaraz in the final, losing in four sets. This was also the first time he had lost in the Australian Open final.
Novak Djokovic reveals which phase of his career he would like to relive
Former World No.1 Novak Djokovic has won a lot throughout his career. The Serb, however, has mentioned the moment in his career that he would like to relive. He said:
I’d like to relive so many moments from my career and my personal life: getting married and becoming a father twice are experiences I’d like to repeat endlessly. Professionally, I’d like to go back to when I won the gold medal for my country at the Paris Olympics , but so many other successes have also remained frozen in time.

By 2024, Djokovic had won everything there was to win, except for the Olympic Gold medal. However, the storyline heading into the Paris Games is what makes this win even sweeter.
The Serb had endured a meniscus tear during Roland Garros that year, which resulted in his withdrawal from the quarterfinals. However, the recovery was so swift that he came back to play Wimbledon five weeks later.
Despite losing the Wimbledon final in straight sets to Carlos Alcaraz, he gained revenge in the Olympic Gold medal match. The Serb won 7-6, 7-6 to complete the cabinet and achieve the Career Golden Slam.
Novak Djokovic reflects on the golden era of Italy
Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic has enjoyed dominance for two decades. Now, he is looking at the dominance of Italian tennis, mainly Jannik Sinner.
So many things! Italy is the most important country in the history of humanity on this planet…Throughout my career, I’ve had a special relationship with Italians; I’ve worked and continue to work with Italians on my team…There’s so much to admire, even in our sport: what Italy has achieved in the last 10-15 years, with its successes in men’s and women’s tennis, is admirable. It’s the leader right now, and the biggest congratulations go to everyone involved in this success. But I could go on for hours talking about Italy!

Italy have won the last three Davis Cup titles. Their dominance is certified by the fact that they didn’t even need Jannik Sinner in the 2025 Davis Cup to complete the win.
Outside of Jannik Sinner, there are many top Italian players on the circuit. After Fabio Fognini’s retirement, Italy has the likes of Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Musetti and Flavio Cobolli.
