Novak Djokovic has took the year 2020 by storm after staying undefeated and unmatchable for most of it barring only three defeats, out of which one was a disqualification. The Serbian is just a few steps away from setting himself as a class apart by breaking major tennis records including most weeks at No. 1, most year-ending No. 1 finishes and also most Grand Slams won.

Besides carrying an invincible persona, Djokovic has not been successful in maintaining his image this year. Starting from the Adria tour and the allegation that followed to the recent US Open 2020 scenario following by a loss in the quarters at the Vienna Open, it seems that all of these incidents are somewhere taking a toll on his game afterall.

Although having taken most of the year by storm, Djokovic should make sure that he does not get absorbed in issues off the court and have his performance hindered leading to frequent tankings.

Paul Annacone, Federer’s former coach has not been impressed by the Serb’s off-court behavior either. In a recent conversation on Tennis Channel, he opined that Djokovic is not helping himself with the accolades if he is not going to take care of his image off the court given the things he has done, consciously or not.

We all can be our own worst enemy: Annacone

When questioned if Djokovic was his own worst enemy, Paul Annacone replied without hesitating.

”Look I think we all can (be our own worst enemy)! But yes to be quite frank (he can),” Annacone said.

The Adria Tour was carried out with a good intention, however, it was not the best decision with the coronavirus lurking around. The US Open fiasco could be called unfortunate, however, everyone is responsible for his/her actions at end of the day. It was purely bad luck, but it was Djokovic who had the racquet in his hand.

With everything that has happened this year, good great or bad, Djokovic should not get tied up with it and ensure things do not get to his head. Paul, during the conversation also stated that Djokovic should steer away from the PTPA (Professional Tennis Players’ Association).

Paul Annacone also displayed empathy towards the Serb and suggested that it’s in the Serb’s best interest to look away from these controversies for they are going to fade eventually and focus on what is important, his career which is still glittering.

Djokovic is on the verge of achieving milestones and he should not let anything come in the way of what he wishes to accomplish or like Paul stated, Djokovic will end up being his own worst enemy in no time.
