Novak Djokovic will compete at Wimbledon with the hope of winning his eighth title at the event. Ahead of his campaign, he took a cheeky dig at Roland Garros, stating that he was confident he wouldn’t be playing late into the night at SW19 as he did in Paris.

The former World No.1 had to endure a poor French Open schedule. He began his third-round match against Lorenzo Musetti on Court Philippe-Chatrier at 10:30 pm local time, with the match scheduled to start at half past eight. The match lasted for four hours and 29 minutes, ending at around 3 am the next morning.

Djokovic later picked up a knee injury at the tournament, and having less than 48 hours to play his next round match possibly played a role in that. Though he won the match, he withdrew after an MRI scan revealed a torn meniscus. However, he has since fully recovered and is now set to make his comeback at Wimbledon.

The former World No. 1, who is the second seed, is set to play all of his matches at Center Court where matches usually start around 1:30 pm local time, which is an hour and thirty minutes after other outdoor courts at the All England Club open. Wimbledon organizers have also placed an 11 pm curfew at the event.

Djokovic said that he was not worried about the scheduling of his matches at Wimbledon and stated that he was confident of not having to play well after midnight.

At least here, I know that I will not finish the matches at three in the morning, so I will not experience a situation identical to that of Roland‐Garros. I have a good team around me, we have prepared well, we will take it match by match.

Djokovic is expected to play his Wimbledon opener on Tuesday (July 2) against Estonian qualifier Vit Kopriva. He is on course to face Polish star Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals.

Novak Djokovic excited to get his Wimbledon campaign started

Novak Djokovic has stated that his knee has responded well since he arrived at Wimbledon. He beat all odds and expectations to return to full fitness after undergoing knee surgery a few weeks ago.

Since he arrived at All England Club, he has trained with Jannik Sinner and Emil Ruusuvuori as he aims to build form and challenge for the Wimbledon title.

The knee has responded very well to all of that so far, which of course then is a great sign for my participation in Wimbledon. That’s why I decided to be in the draw.
