Novak Djokovic commends Lightweight Champion ‘The Eagle’ Khabib Nurmagomedov after win at UFC 254

Khabib Nurmagomedov headlined the UFC 254. The organisers shifted the gears when it came it to this event. They hosted it at the Flash Forum on Yes Island in Dubai. With this win over Justin Gaethje, Khabib has remained undefeated at the lightweight championship. Further, he has successfully defended his lightweight title and extended his record to 29-0. He achieved this incredible feat before he unveiled his decision to retire out of the blue.
The reason for Nurmagomedov’s retirement remains quite simple. He had lost his father and lifetime coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov due to complications arising from Covid-19. The pair were very close and a heartfelt tribute to his father was aired in the form of an animated video just before the UFC 254 card.
Moreover, the likes of Novak Djokovic, Bianca Andreescu and Karen Khachanov have heavily praised Khabib for his fighting spirit and achievement.

After almost a year long break, Khabib returned to the octagon soared to victory. Subsequently, Khabib was entangled in the emotions of the process. The lightweight champion crawled to the ground and wept uncontrollably. After that, he vented out all the emotions that weighed him down leading to this fight and dedicated this win to his father. Vying to the promises he’s made to his family, ‘The Eagle’ likely won’t be seen in action in the Octagon ever again.
World No.1 Novak Djokovic commended this stupendous feat. He posted an illustration of Abdulmanap’s spirit standing beside Khabib.

In addition, U.S Open champion Bianca Andreescu congratulated Khabib by writing “Khabib, wow,” on her twitter page.
Further, even former TOP-10 player Karen Khachanov was taken aback by the iconic night. He credited Khabib and wrote, “Legendary Champion. One of the best fighters ever. Undisputed. Wow.”
Khabib has now retired from the sport of UFC. He will not fight without his father beside him. Before walking away for good, the champ has given a myriad of moments that are etched in the history of sports.
