“Novak Djokovic has set a new standard,” Jon Wertheim thinks Novak to close out the year by winning ATP finals in Turin

The Serbian clinched his 6th Paris Masters title and 37th career ATP 1000 title by defeating World No. 2 and defending champion Daniil Medvedev in the final.

In an interview hosted by Tennis Channel, sports journalist, and author, Jon Wertheim was asked to predict the winner of the ATP Finals in Turin this year. Wertheim, who is also an analyst for Tennis Channel believes that World No.1, Novak Djokovic is going to live up to his seeding yet again as he is in red hot form.

Djokovic had already confirmed his place as the Year-end No.1 after he won his semi-final tie and in the process also became the first male tennis player to end the year as World No. 1 for the 7th time, breaking Pete Sampras‘ record he finished as World No. 1 for 6 consecutive years.

“He finds significance through every triumph” – Jon Wertheim on Djokovic

Jon Werthiem and Novak Djokovic

During the interview, Wertheim spoke quite highly of the Serb in comparison to others competing in the season-ending event. The American journalist was in full praise of World No.1 whose mindset is absolutely elite which pushes him to be his best version on the court.

He said –

“I think Novak has set a new standard of priority. He finds significance in every triumph. Others might be like you’ve already locked the World No.1 ranking, look ahead probably Australian Open or the next big title. I don’t think Djokovic does that, he’s going to take some serious motivation from finishing strong and making a statement to close out the year.”

Werthiem mentioned the recent situation in the Bercy final where Djokovic lost the first set however, managed to find his opening and continued to build strength to strength till he got his hands on the coveted title for a record-breaking sixth time.

“We saw what he did today in the last two sets. I’m writing the no.1 player in the hot hands. I think the number one seed lives up to his seeding.”

Djokovic will be joined by Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Zverev, Rublev, Berretini, Ruud and Hurkacz in Turin for the year-end ATP Finals starting from November 14.
