Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic suffered a humiliating defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 Wimbledon final. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was outclassed by his opponent in straight sets. The Spaniards were so dominating that he could win only four games in the first two sets.

While it was for the second consecutive year that the Serbian lost to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, this defeat was completely different than the last one. In 2023, Djokovic was in the game till the very end. But this year, he was to be on the back foot right from the start. This lopsided defeat for the Serbian led to talks about a change in guard.

Many experts opined that the transition has occurred with Alcaraz being the current superstar. Djokovic also talked about this transition but came up with an interesting explanation for the support the 21-year-old is getting. The 37-year-old believes that the cheer for Alcaraz is more out of hate for him.

Many people are not happy with me being among the best, so they will be hoping for this change to happen, but it is an integral part of my career and the ecosystem in which I work, function, and live. Everyone has the right to express their opinion. The bigger the stage, the further it will be heard. And people who were not even close to the titles and the Central Court, but they are talking about something - that... Gone with the wind
Novak Djokovic said about this change of guard to SportKlub

Djokovic is yet to win a title this year and will be hoping to end that barren run at the Paris Olympics.

Novak Djokovic agrees to Carlos Alcaraz being the next superstar

Novak Djokovic also said that Carlos Alcaraz is the next superstar of tennis. He hailed the 21-year-old for achieving so much at such a young age. The Serbian also talked about Jannik Sinner and claimed that these two deserve to be part of the discussion.

If we talk about the results of Alcaraz, he deserves to be part of the discussion about the change of generations because he deserves it - four slams, he was number 1. Sinner also, especially this year, but not so much others - the results need to be proven.

It is worth mentioning that Sinner and Alcaraz have claimed all three Grand Slam titles this year. While Alcaraz won the Roland Garros and Wimbledon titles, Sinner won the Australian Open. Additionally, Djokovic was defeated by the two players on their way to the titles. While Sinner beat him in the semifinal in Melbourne, Alcaraz beat him in the final at SW19.

The two players are currently in the top three of the rankings and soon will form the top two. Among them, Alcaraz is ahead of Sinner in terms of the number of Grand Slam titles. The Spaniard has already won four titles while Sinner has just one.
