Nikola Pilic, Novak Djokovic‘s former coach, gave his thoughts on who was the better player between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. The two are considered the best players from the current generation and are expected to rule the men’s circuit for many years.
Former World No. 6 Pilic believes Alcaraz is the better player due to his maturity and ability to deal with pressure during the most intense moments of a match. He backed him to have a great career and also credited Jannik Sinner for being nearly as good as the Spaniard.
Alcaraz is a very mature talent, the most mature of his generation. I also have a lot of sympathy for Jannik Sinner, but for me Carlos is simply the better of the two and the greater talent. He is very active and plays incredible tennis.Nikola Pilic told We Love Tennis
His claim is backed by the numbers that the two players have racked up in their short but sensational careers so far. Alcaraz has yet to lose a Grand Slam final, winning all four that he has played. Sinner also has a perfect Major final record, though he has reached only one (2024 Australian Open) so far.
Nikola Pilic shuts down claims about Novak Djokovic faking injury
Novak Djokovic suffered a knee injury during the French Open, which forced him to withdraw from the tournament and undergo surgery immediately. However, just a couple of weeks later, he was back to his best at Wimbledon, where he finished as the runner-up.
This made some skeptics question if he had truly sustained an injury or if it was all a ruse to get the mental high ground against his rivals by taking some pressure off himself. Nikola Pilic, however, believes that the Serbian was not faking anything.
Yes. He definitely had problems at Roland Garros. For example, I could see that one leg was weaker than the other.Nikola Pilic told Tennis Magazin
Djokovic did play at Wimbledon and the Paris Olympics with a grey band on his right knee, the same knee that was operated on a few weeks earlier.
