“Novak Djokovic had something special for me in his baggage,” Thiem reveals the special ‘Prize’ that Djokovic brought for him
Novak Djokovic is scheduled to clash against fellow countryman and pal, Filip Karjinovic later today. The duo will fight to reach the round of 16 at the Vienna Open. On the other hand, Dominic Thiem will take on Ukraine’s Vitaliy Sachko in the first round.
Appearing in Austria was not the now No.1 seed, Djokovic’s plan initially. He elected to take the wildcard in hopes to win the tournament and further solidify his ranking as the World No.1. This has caused quite a stir and has lead to a stellar line-up in Erste Bank Open.
The Austrian has launched a new website where he has opened up about numerous topics. He introspected on the career he’s had so far. The 27-year-old has made stupendous strides and also became a Grand Slam champion with his U.S Open win earlier this year. Citing the same, he said, “As a child, I cheered for Stefan Koubek and Juergen Melzer in the stands, as a teenager I beat Thomas Muster in the “duel of generations” 6:2, 6:3 in October 2011 – my first victory on the ATP-tour in front of a sell-out crowd. It is unbelievable how fast time flies!”
Novak Djokovic’s package for Dominic Thiem and what the Austrian uses it for
The Serb’s surprise announcement to compete in Vienna Open has shocked the defending champion, Dominic Thiem. These top-seeds are slated to go deep in the tournament and ultimately compete in the final. Even though such is the case, Djokovic has brought a special delivery for Thiem ahead of the commencement of the matches.
“Novak Djokovic had my prize money check from Belgrade (Adria Tour) in his baggage,” Thiem wrote on his official launched website. The pair participated in the now-defamed Adria tour.
Moreover, Domi proceeded to declare, “I will donate the entire money to the St. Anna Children’s Hospital and a good friend of mine.”
Aware of the top-notch players in the Vienna Open draw, Thiem continued, “There is one thing for sure: the Stadthalle is the venue of spectacular tennis this year. Stars, stars, stars – every single match will be sensational. This 500-tournament has never seen so many top players before.”
Thiem is a native of the homeland he’ll be defending his title in.
Reflecting on the importance of the win in Austria, he concluded with, “I am in the main draw of Vienna for the tenth time, this year I am even the defending champion. I will never forget the emotions after my victory in 2019 – wonderful and unique. It was a moment of goose bumps! This trophy means a lot to me, so does Vienna.”
