World No. 2 Novak Djokovic found some humor while reflecting on his 2024 Wimbledon final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz. It is the second time he has tasted defeat against the Spaniard at the All-England Club, having lost to him in five sets in last year’s final.
In his post-match interview, Djokovic accepted that Alcaraz was the better player across all departments. He also applauded the World No. 3 for his achievements despite being just 21 years old.

He was definitely very hot today. Obviously not the result I wanted. Especially the first few sets.. the level of tennis wasn’t up to par from my side. Credit to Carlos. He had it all today. I saved the 3 match points. I extended the match a bit. But he was an absolutely deserved winner today. Huge congratulations.
Novak Djokovic said in his post-match interview
It was on this day (July 14) five years ago that Djokovic beat Roger Federer after saving two championship points to win his fifth Wimbledon title. While he managed to save three championship points at 5-4 in the third set against Alcaraz, he could not mount and comeback and had to settle for a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) defeat.
Despite remarkable recovery after surgery, Novak Djokovic remains without a title in 2024
After knee surgery in early June, Novak Djokovic made an incredible comeback to take part in the Wimbledon Championships. He not only participated in the grass Major but also reached the final, which was a record-extending 37th Grand Slam final.

The Serbian, however, failed to deliver against Carlos Alcaraz, who gave him little chance to settle. The Spaniard stayed on the front foot through the match and wrapped up the win much faster than anyone predicted.
Incredibly, Djokovic has yet to win a title this season. In fact, he reached his first ATP final in 2024 at Wimbledon. Before that, his best results in the year were three semifinal finishes, losing to Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open, Casper Ruud in Monte Carlo, and Tomas Machac in Geneva. The World No. 2 will next take part in the Paris Olympics, where he will be hoping to win his maiden Olympic gold medal.
