The World No. 2 will return to action next week at the US Open to try to defend his title and win a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title. With his newfound motivation and sensational form in the last few weeks, he will be the player to beat at the final Slam of the year. Here is a look at the video that is now going viral.
Novak Djokovic all but assured of no. 2 seeding at the US Open
With Carlos Alcaraz’s surprising early loss to Gael Monfils at Cincinnati, Novak Djokovic can breathe a sigh of relief as he won’t be overtaken by the Spaniard on the leaderboard this week. Djokovic, currently ranked no. 2 in the world will hold on to this ranking until the US Open unless Alexander Zverev, who is ranked 4, clinches the title in Cincinnati.
If Zverev goes all the way in the final American Masters 1000 event of the year, he will earn enough ranking points to topple Djokovic from the penultimate position. Jannik Sinner will remain World No. 1 in the foreseeable future, with his commanding lead over the other players. The Italian, who recently celebrated his 23rd birthday, will be the top seed at the US Open irrespective of the results in Cincinnati.
Djokovic’s fate, however, depends on Zverev but he will likely retain his spot given the stacked draw that Zverev is up against. If he is not overtaken, the Serbian will be the second seed in NYC and will only face Sinner in the final there.
