24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic knows what it takes to be at the top of the tennis world. Although he is not at that level anymore, he reflects on the players who have taken his place at the top.

The Serb mentioned two players who have dominated the headlines in the past 24 months: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Interestingly, Djokovic described the Spaniard as the player who embodies the values of the Big 4.

We have Alcaraz and Sinner, who are developing a new rivalry. Nadal, Federer, and myself, along with Murray, whom I must include here, dominated tennis in the last 15 or 20 years, raising the standard to very high levels, not only in terms of results but in other aspects that a champion and world number one should have: how to play the role of ambassador and leader in the sport, for example. In terms of charisma, Alcaraz has always stood out, not only for his tennis and his incredible successes at such a young age but for being a fair and kind tennis player with everyone. When he loses, he does it with a smile, which I find impressive for someone so young and with less experience.

Novak Djokovic said in an interview (H/T: Punto de Break)

Djokovic was part of an era of dominance that lasted more than two decades, alongside Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray. These tennis legends won an incredible 69 Grand Slams and over 350 ATP titles.

However, their dominance has declined due to the rise of Alcaraz and Sinner. The duo has won the last five Grand Slams and has already spent a combined 72+ weeks as World No. 1.

Novak Djokovic potentially involved in a multi-million mega deal

Novak Djokovic may return to action sooner than expected. His decision to play at the Qatar Open could be influenced by more than just match practice.

In 2024, Djokovic said his focus was on Grand Slams and representing Serbia in the Olympics and Davis Cup. However, he had already confirmed his plan to play in Doha before injuring his hamstring at the Australian Open.

There is a chance that his deal requires him to attend the Qatar Open, whether he plays or not. He may travel to Doha and decide after practice if he is fit to compete.

Some reports suggest he has not trained since his injury. But if his medical updates were not positive, he would not be considering playing in this event.
