The executive director of the PTPA, founded by Novak Djokovic, Ahmad Nassar, took to X to address the controversy surrounding Jannik Sinner‘s doping scandal. The Italian has faced scrutiny from various media and sports outlets after testing positive twice for clostebol last March at Indian Wells.

Nassar believes the criticism of Sinner is unfair. Instead, he argues that WADA and ITIA should be held accountable for putting the world No. 1 in a difficult situation.

In Jannik’s specific case, he was put in an unfair situation. ITIA claims to have followed its process and rules. WADA disagrees and feels the need to oppose ITIA. This does not mean that we agree with the substance of WADA’s appeal or with ITIA’s initial decision. But Sinner is caught in a political-legal dispute between ITIA and WADA. And he is still waiting, almost a year later, for his case to be fully resolved. Again, this is unfair.

News of Sinner’s doping case surfaced in August, just days after his Cincinnati Open victory. Since then, he has faced heavy criticism from some tennis players, particularly Nick Kyrgios.

Meanwhile, Djokovic has criticized the system for its inconsistency. He pointed out that Simona Halep received a harsher ban for a similar case, raising concerns about fairness in the process.

Jannik Sinner begins training in Doha

Jannik Sinner is currently in his 36th week as the world No. 1, matching Carlos Alcaraz‘s record. The 23-year-old had a strong start to the season. He successfully defended his Australian Open title, claiming his third Grand Slam trophy.

Sinner decided to skip last week’s ATP 500 event in Rotterdam. Instead, he enjoyed the snowy weather in Italy. Afterward, he traveled to Monte Carlo to train at the famous tennis club and prepare for his next tournament. He is set to head to Doha soon.

The Italian aims to win his second title of the season at the ATP 500 event in Doha. He will face tough competition from Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, who are also part of the tournament’s strong draw.

Sinner finished the 2023 season as world No. 4. He had a great year, starting with a win in Melbourne. In 2024, he had 73 wins from 79 matches and captured eight ATP titles. He also helped Italy defend its Davis Cup title. Sinner proved his strength by winning the Australian Open again.
