Novak Djokovic recollects a “once-in-a-lifetime experience” after winning the Wimbledon and becoming the World No.1 in 2011
Novak Djokovic with Australian Open Trophy
Serbian player Novak Djokovic has cemented himself as one of the most prominent and well-known personalities in the realm of tennis on the back of his impeccable performances throughout his career. With one of the best head-on-head records against some of the most talented players in tennis, the Serb has become a household name. However, with a total of 10 tournaments which also include his victories in the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open, 2011 has been one of the most successful as well as special years for Novak when it comes to professional tennis.
All these triumphs helped the Serbian become No.1 in the ATP Rankings. He became World No.1 just after his Wimbledon win and became the first Serbian ever in the history of the sport to do so. That’s not all, in 2011, he won the prestigious tournament for the seventh time.
Novak Djokovic recently described it as once in a lifetime experience. A moment that he will cherish throughout his life. The 21-time Grand Slam winner also remembered how he celebrated the victory with thousands of fans on the streets of Serbia. As per the tennis sensation himself, both of his childhood dreams came true in just two days and it felt like the perfect “movie script.”
he noted, “In 2011 both my childhood dreams came true in two days: winning Wimbledon and being #1 in the world. That was the perfect movie script scenario. Going back to Serbia, celebrating with thousands of people in the street. It was just once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
The 2008 Olympic Games bronze medalist’s journey has been a fairy tale for many up-and-coming players out there. Many people are even inspired by what he was able to achieve in the span of his career and how he managed to make himself worthy enough to be included in the Big Three with sheer determination and hard work.
Suspense over Novak Djokovic’s entry into the Australian Open 2023 continues
Novak Djokovic has won the Australian Open a record 9 times. But he is also the player who had been deported from Australia in a disgraceful manner.
Back in January 2021, Novak Djokovic arrived in Down Under to defend his title but was soon deported from the country because of his unvaccinated status against COVID-19. The rules mandated that all players must get vaccinated against the deadly virus as there was a spike in the number of cases.
As Novak refused to take the dose, he was not allowed to play in the US Open in 2021 over the same concerns. But what the Australian Government did was too far-fetched. They put him on a flight back to his home just one day before the start of the tournament. The authorities also banned him from entering Australia for the next three years.
However, the situation concerning COVID-19 is much better in Australia now. The laws that were been strictly enforced to contain coronavirus have also eased. But having said that, there has been no confirmation from the Federal Government of Australia whether they would allow the 2021 Australian Open winner to play in the prestigious event.
Novak Djokovic and his team of attorneys are in talks with the Australian authorities. With that being said, the ball is in the Australian Government’s court. Will they allow Novak Djokovic a chance to play at the Australian Open? What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
