“I’m not looking to…,” Novak Djokovic reveals how he plans to tackle Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner threat in 2025 season
Novak Djokovic was asked about how he plans to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner after his first-round win in Brisbane.

Novak Djokovic has already started his campaign for the 2025 season. He is in Brisbane for the ATP 250 event and booked a spot in the second round following a straight-set win over Rinky Hijikata on December 31.
After the match, he was asked about his plans to challenge youngsters like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, both of who defeated the Serb last year in Grand Slam events. It was Sinner who, before winning the final, knocked Djokovic out of the Australian Open after securing a four-set win in the semifinals. Djokovic then succumbed to a straight-set defeat to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final.
After a forgetful season on the ATP Tour, Djokovic hired Andy Murray and spent 10 days working with him. Djokovic knows that at the stage of his career, it won’t help him if he tries to change his game.
Well, I’m not looking to transform my game completely. I mean, I’m not going to be Giovanni [Mpetshi Perricard] serving two first serves and coming into the net (smiling), but I definitely am looking to improve, even if it’s the slightest percentage, every single shot that I have in my game, and maybe something that people don’t necessarily see is this court positioning, the transition play, the tactics.
Novak Djokovic said at the press conference
Djokovic edges Alcaraz 4-3 in their head-to-head contest but Sinner has tied the record 4-4 after his two wins over the Serb in 2024. Both Alcaraz and Sinner skipped the Brisbane International.
Andy Murray responds to Novak Djokovic’s skiing warning
Novak Djokovic is in Brisbane but his coach Andy Murray is enjoying a skiing trip with his family- including his wife Kim Sears and four children. After his first-round win, in his post-match interview, Djokovic joked that he hopes Murray doesn’t get injured before the Australian Open. Murray has now responded to his protege’s tongue-in-cheek comment by sharing a clip from his trip.

I’m taking on some huge slopes as you can see but no injuries just yet.

Djokovic will be hoping to have a smooth run in Brisbane. In his second round, he is set to lock horns with Gael Monfils and will be hoping to extend his head-to-head record to 20-0. Djokovic also played doubles with Nick Kyrgios but their campaign ended when Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus defeated them in the second round.
