Novak Djokovic says that he wants to give back and be a “Coach and a Mentor” after retirement

Novak Djokovic

World No.1 Novak Djokovic remains the dominant force on the men’s tour. Even in a shortened season, the Serbian got a hold of 4 titles, one of which is a Grand Slam at the Australian Open. With his recent wins in Vienna Open, he locked his year-end no.1 ranking for the 6th time, provided that Rafael Nadal doesn’t get a wildcard into Sofia Open.
Djokovic has stated his professional goals time and time again. His main driving forces are breaking Roger Federer’s record of most weeks as World No.1, i.e, 310 weeks and winning the most Grand Slam titles in the singles category for men. Further, the Serb will break Federer’s record if he remains atop the world rankings till 8 March 2021. As for the Grand Slam titles, he currently holds 17, while Federer and Nadal have 20 each.
Even though Novak is going strong, and is expected to maintain ‘his own level of extraordinary’ in the coming years, he has recently opened up about what his life proceeding his tennis career will look like.
Djokovic’s post-retirement plans

Novak’s announcement doesn’t come as much surprise as the champion has been spotted on numerous occasions giving tennis lessons to kids. Just a few weeks back, while he was walking his dog, he graciously stopped in the street to answer kids’ questions about tennis who had surrounded him. He helped fix their form and gave them tips to be pro like he is.
In a recent video conference with Fabio Fognini, Nole gave an insight into his retirement plans. Djokovic wants to continue being involved with the sport he cares for dearly, either as a coach or a mentor. In fact, he has stated that it will be “a huge pleasure” to do so.
The 33-year-old has also said that he would “love to travel to tournaments without pressure. Or having to think about how much to practice.”
Further, Nole stated that, “I am not one of those players that is fed up with tennis. And cannot wait to never see the court again. It is quite the opposite. And I would love to test my abilities as a mentor and as a coach.”
Many players tend to go down a completely different route after their tennis careers are over. Novak however, won’t be one of them. Now, he will be seen in action in the final tournament of the season, the ATP finals.
