Does Novak Djokovic still have it in him to win more Grand Slam titles? Djokovic is confident of having a better year than 2024 and that he can challenge the two youngsters, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner if his body allows him.
Djokovic had a disappointing season this year as he failed to win any Grand Slam trophy for the first time since 2017. He was trophyless on the tour but he did win his first Olympic gold medal.
In an interview, Djokovic talked about his ‘least profitable season in the last 10 years’ and revealed there were also private issues that needed to be resolved. He was looking forward to his first major title since the 2023 US Open when he started his campaign this season but Sinner ended up winning the Australian Open and US Open, while Alcaraz took home the French Open and Wimbledon.
The Serb has hired longtime rival Andy Murray in his team as his coach for the 2025 Australian Open after parting ways with Goran Ivanisevic earlier this year.
Novak Djokovic thinks Jannik Sinner would have a great career
Jannik Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic twice when they met in the semifinals of the 2024 Australian Open and the final of the Shanghai Masters. Sinner also emerged as the winner when they met at an unofficial event in Riyadh.
The Italian won all these tournaments and also lifted five more titles this season, ending it as the No.1 player. In that aforementioned interview, Djokovic said he’s not surprised to see Sinner reach the level he’s at.
Djokovic has met Sinner eight times but both won four matches each. The last time the 37-year-old defeated the 23-year-old was in the summit clash of the 2023 ATP Finals. Sinner won his first ATP Finals title this year.
