Novak Djokovic has revealed that he celebrated with his team like a family after winning the Olympic singles gold medal in Paris. The Serbian defeated Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the final to clinch the elusive medal.

Djokovic arrived at the Paris Olympics without a title on the ATP Tour all year. He had failed to replicate his form from last year as the season progressed. At the French Open, the 37-year-old was looking to hold on to the World No. 1 position as Jannik Sinner was in position to topple him. To do so, he needed to win the title and hope for Sinner to make an early exit.

Two weeks later, Djokovic played Alcaraz again in the Olympic singles final and got his revenge against the Spaniard. He couldn’t hide his excitement after he won the Olympic gold medal, as it arguably sealed his place as the GOAT of tennis.

In a recent interview, Djokovic revealed how he celebrated his Olympic triumph. He stated that he visited the Olympic Village despite opting to not stay there and celebrated with his compatriots.

This time I wasn't staying, but I've enjoyed so much paying a visit to our team at the Olympic Village. It's not just a team, but one huge family. When I came back to them with a Gold, the way we celebrated, it was unforgettable!

Meanwhile, Djokovic failed to replicate that form at the US Open, his first tournament after the Paris Olympics. The World No. 4 exited in the third round in New York after losing to Alexei Popyrin.

Novak Djokovic admits he felt an additional pressure during the US Open

Novak Djokovic is immersed with the Serbian Team in the Davis Cup. The 37-year-old intends to help his country stay in the Group phase and have a chance to compete for the title next year. The former World No. 1 will be part of the team when they play Greece on September 14 and 15.

Ahead of Serbia’s upcoming Davis Cup matches, Djokovic revealed the reasons for his early exit at the US Open. He admitted that he felt additional pressure compared to the Olympic Games.

In New York, for example, I felt like it wasn't me on the court, that I wasn't well prepared, so I felt more additional pressure before each match compared to before the Olympic Games final. Simply because of how I felt. Tennis is an individual sport: if you don't have a solution on a given day, it's over, you lose.
