Novak Djokovic‘s bold actions and opinions on health-related issues often garner more attention than expected. He made another strong decision today by refusing to have bottles of cola next to him during a press conference ahead of the Olympics.
On Thursday, the Serbian Olympic team attended a press conference where bottles of cola from sponsors were placed on the players’ tennis alongside water. Many decided to let the setup stay as is while Novak Djokovic had the bottles that were placed in front of him removed. Several years ago, soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo had done the same as he did not wish to be involved in the promotion of unhealthy beverages.
Djokovic has had similar philosophies to the soccer legend as they both share a passion for fitness and health. With his gesture, Djokovic has solidified his stance against unhealthy and artificial food, potentially Influencing many young fans for the good.

However, not all of his actions have been as well received – the opinions he expressed about Covid vaccines and the subsequent decision to not get vaccinated were extremely controversial in those trying times. Despite some questionable decisions, he continues to be a key representative for healthy diets, eating mostly plant-based foods and urging that this change in his diet led him to become the consistently outstanding player that he is now.
Novak Djokovic to inaugurate the men’s singles event as he plays the first match on Court Philippe Chatrier
The schedule and draws for the Summer Olympics 2024 were announced on Wednesday, generating uncontrollable excitement from tennis fans as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic may potentially clash in the second round of men’s singles. If it comes to fruition, that match may be one for the history books as it will likely be their last ever encounter.
Before getting there, they still have hurdles to get over in the form of their first-round opponents. Iga Swiatek will kick off tennis at the Philippe Chatrier Arena on day one with her match against Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania. The first matches on all match courts start at 12pm local time. Following Swiatek’s match, Djokovic will take to the center court to start his (potentially) final Olympics campaign with a match against Australia’s Matthew Ebden.
The excitement in Philippe Chatrier will be undying as right after the first round of the World No.2, the pair of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal will grace the red dirt to put on a much-anticipated show.
